Comments Now Active

Hello all, Just a quick note, I have completed work on the K-Disk comments module, Which is now active on all sub pages. The comments system is open to members and non-members.

Captcha Now Active

We have been getting ALOT of Spam via the "Contact Us" page. While we encourage people to contact us, we needed to stop the spam. We have implimented a simple Captcha form to prevent automated postings. We will be using the same captcha system on the comments page (Hopefully it will launch today as well)

The Evolution of pAsM-Mirrors.com - Launch of getDistro.com

In August of 2008, we started a small project called pAsM-Mirrors.com. This was started because we decided to host the downloads page for a popular Linux distro called gOS. We quickly found out that pAsM-Mirrors.com was growing too fast. The backend software that we created could hardly contain it.

So we created 2 alternitive backend systems called Wi2 and Wi3 in effort to create a more stable enviroment. Wi2 prooved that it would require way too many resources to run. In fact, it would require its own dedicated server, not to mention the mirror boxes. Wi3 was born from its failure. Wi3 was later renamed to getDistro.com . getDistro.com will offer all of the features of pAsM-Mirrors.com not to mention a more user friendly interface. We are also happy to announce a new feature, LOAD BALANCING !!!!. Since the Load Balance script was written from scratch, it is still in its infancy.

New Feature Added - Social Bookmarking Support !!!

Did you know that Social Networking is no longer considered just a fad? The use of Social Networking Bookmarking sites is on the rise and the use of which is expected to grow by at least 56% in 2009 alone. This adds up to over 600,000 users by the end of the year!!! At K-Disk.com we have decided to Jump on the Bandwagon, and the rest of our sites will soon follow.

Effective Immediately, there will now be a section of all of our content pages that will allow you to add links to your own social bookmark sites.

Internet Explorer 6 - End of Life

It is with much regret that I must inform you that we must phase out support for Internet Explorer 6 on K-Disk.com. Granted most of the features on this site will continue to run on Internet Explorer, we encourage everyone to upgrade to Internet Explorer 7 or Mozilla Firefox.

My Switch to Open Source

January is the time to make resolutions for the new year. While most people make resolutions to get out of debt or to loose weight (not to say those are not also none), this year one of my personal New Years Resolutions is to transition to Open-source / Freeware applications on all of my personal computers. This change will not be easy because like many others, I have grown to rely on several applications that were only created to run on Microsoft Windows. This Blog Page will be my personal journal on my 2009 resolution of moving to Open-source Software, I hope you all enjoy it and if any of you decide to take this leap, I hope this helps you.
